River Raft Tour Itinerary
Introduction Located in their vicinity the Biebrza River National Park (Poland's largest) and the Narew River National Park occupy together what is probably Poland's (if not Europe's) wildest territory of unspoiled natural beauty. The Biebrza River National Park is a bird-watcher's haven as it hosts over 250 bird species. Canoeing down the Biebrza river or hiking across the Biebrza swamps can be your chance of a lifetime for extraordinary animal encounters (elks, deer, beavers, otters or badgers). Commonly referred to as the "Polish Amazon", the Narew River National Park is no less thrilling to visit. The Narew River with its multiple riverbeds clears its path through the exuberant greenery of the park, flooding freely according to its natural rhythm. Natural marshes, scrub willow, thickets of reeds and rushes create the authentic wilderness of the landscape. Therefore, if you are willing to escape civilization for a while - this destination is a must see. Canoeing is the best, and often the only way to visit all picturesque locations. We offer trips of varying duration (from 3 or 4 days on) into one or both of these national park, itineraries being based on activities listed below.
ARRIVAL DESTINATION (recommended) Warsaw - operated by all major airlines
FIRST DAY Arrival in Warsaw, transfer to the Biebrza River National Park (ca. 3-hour drive), accommodation in a local bed and breakfast in one of the villages in the area.(exact location to be selected after confirmed reservation from clients, no later than ca. 5-6 weeks before arrival, subject to room availability).
DAYS II - onwards Activities (to be selected on location subject to weather conditions and the participants' preferences):- hiking in Brzostowo-Wizna area to watch the bird colonies- hiking/biking in the Lawki Swamps area and/or Gugny-Barwik area (spying on birds and other wildlife - possible elk, beaver, otter encounters)- hiking across the Red Swamp area- canoe or raft trips on the Biebrza river- canoe and boat trips on the Narew river- a visit to the Osowiec Fort - 19th century Russian fortifications- a visit to Tykocin to see the 15th/16th c. Town layout- a visit to the Regional Museum at Lipsk for insights into the folk handicraft, art and traditions
LAST DAY Transfer to Warsaw for departure from Poland; please note that it is possible to extend the trip with a 1-2 nights' stay in Warsaw to include the city sightseeing tour.
