Mountain Bike Tour Itinerary
Introduction The Suwalki-Austow Lakeland (Suwalszczyzna) is Poland's most north-eastern territory, bordering Lithuania in the east and Russia in the north. By far it is also one of Poland's wildest areas. The unspoiled landscape has its own unique charm - it is hilly, overgrown with the primeval forest and spotted with lakes and rivers. Since it is also quite scarcely populated, it is best to discover and explore its beauties by bike. We offer all-year-round biking trips across the entire region, using a cosy little bed and breakfast in a village on the Wigry Lake (in the heart of a national park) as a base point. Therefore, it may sometimes be required to drive (up to 1 hour) from your accommodation to the biking trip starting point. For anyone tired of biking walking or canoeing trips in the area can also be organized as well presentations of traditional folk arts and crafts and cooking.
ARRIVAL DESTINATION (recommended) Warsaw - operated by all major airlines, ca. 3-hour drive from the Suwalki Lakeland Gdansk - operated by most major airlines, ca. 3.5-hour drive from the area.
FIRST DAY Transfer from the airport, accommodation in a local bed and breakfast
DAYS II - onwards(the recommended minimum is 4-5 days) Some of our recommended biking routes (please note that the distances can be shortened or extended slightly according to participants' preferences) : - around the Wigry lake (ca. 60 km) - the heart of the National Park, preserving pristine glacial landscape (wildlife haven), a visit to a historic Baroque monastery on the way- across the Augustow Great Primeval Forest and along the Czarna Hancza River valley (ca. 60 km)- along the Russian border and across the Romincka Forest (ca. 55 km) - nature, old traditional villages, woden architecture- around the Suwalki Landscape Reserve (ca. 45 km) - Poland's deepest lake, Czarna Hancza river hanging valley, glacial rocks, etc- tracing the Lithuanian culture (ca. 60 km) - along the Lithuanian border, through old villages of Polish-Lithuanian communities- along the Rospuda River valley (ca. 50 km)- along the Augustow Canal (ca. 80 km) - viewing the engineering masterpiece of the 19th c. and its 7 locks- looping around the Augustow Great Primeval Forest (any distance from ca. 40-70 km) - nature and wildlife on special request:- bike trekking across the entire region withover nightss at different locationeach Pleasee note that we also run biking trips on shorter distances in wintertime. Biking on the snow is thrilling and it's fun.
LAST DAY Transfer to the airport for departure
Optionally, depending on the arrival location, the itinerary can be extended to include a sightseeing stay in Warsaw or sightseeing stay in Gdansk
