In the evening or during the day (subject to availability - to be confirmed a few days prior to your arrival) you will attend a Chopin's piano concert .The city tour is organized around three main themes (please note, however, that for convenience reasons you may not see the sites listed below exactly in the presented order). The Royal Warsaw Take a walk along the so called Royal Route, along Nowy Swiat and Krakowskie Przedmiescie Streets, passing by palaces, churches and the historic Warsaw University campus. While visiting the Old Town area you will also be guided around sites which witnessed the most severe fights during the Warsaw Uprising of 1944. This part of the tour may also include (optionally) a visit to the Warsaw History Museum for a movie show presenting pre-war Warsaw and the scale of its wartime destruction .To get away from the city buzz for a while it is worth visiting Lazienki Park and Palace. Once the residence of Poland's last King, now almost in the city centre it provides a moment of relaxation and joy for both nature and art lovers.Optionally (if time and weather permits) you may continue the Royal Route sightseeing by moving to Wilanow - once an out-of-town Royal residence, often referred to as the Polish Versailles for its grandeur and beauty .The Jewish Warsaw Before WWII Warsaw was the home of Europe's largest Jewish community (nearly 400,000 Jewish residents). Nowadays, only a few remnants of this grand past can still be traced around the city (as pictured, for example in Roman Polanski's "Pianist" movie):- visit Plac Grzybowski and the adjoining streets - the pre-war heart of the Jewish community; now a few houses and shop-fronts have been finely renovated to depict the 19th century splendour of the place; it is also the site of Warsaw's only preserved synagogue- Jewish Holocaust in Warsaw - the ghetto - see the yard of Sienna 55 with one of the last remains of the Ghetto wall, look at the neighboring hospital building at Sienna 60 (formerly the Jewish children hospital), stop at Umschlagplatz at Stawki 10 and continue the Ghetto tour along the Tract of the Jewish Martyrdom and Fighting of 1940 - 1943. The communist Warsaw (this is mainly a drive-around part of the tour). - starting with the Palace of Culture and Science - completed in 1956, commissioned by Stalin as "a gift from the Soviet nation", the Palace marks off the very city centre, dominating the skyline with its 231 m tower. A visit to its viewing platform at the 30th floor will present the magnificent Warsaw panorama and will allow you to grasp the general whereabouts of the city- the former Communist Party Central Office, now turned into a financial centre - the MDM district was built right after WWII to provide housing for the working classes; the monumental apartment blocks surround a large square which was meant to serve as a community centre .Dinner on your own in the evening (if available, your guide will recommend a venue with a traditional Polish folk music and dance show).
DAY III - transfer to Tricity via Olsztynek and Malbork stop by Ostroda-Elblag Canal overnight in Gdansk Leaving Warsaw in the morning you will travel to the Tricity of Gdansk, Sopot and Gdynia on the Baltic Sea coast, stopping on the way at a few places of interest. The estimated mileage for this day is 400 km. After a ca. 2-and-a-half hour drive you will first get the town of Olsztynek, where you will visit the open air museum of the Polish folk life. The museum presents houses and other buildings (eg. barns, windmills, stables, etc.) which were brought from around the area to preserve the last examples of traditional 19th century local countryside architecture. Combined with a display of traditional farming tools and equipment the museum attempts to recreate typical country folk way of living .A restaurant at the entrance to the museum serves some of the best of local traditional cuisine, so you may have a short lunch break there. Continue your travel from Olsztynek towards the Tricity. On the way you will make a short (ca. 5 km) detour from the main road to stop at Buczyniec. Buczyniec is the location of one of the shafts on the Ostroda-Elblag Canal. You will be able to see a part of the canal and the guide will explain how it operates. Continue to Malbork to visit the jewel of the Medieval Gothic architecture - the capital and the main castle of the Teutonic Order. Please note, however, that Monday is a day off for most museums in Poland. Therefore, some exhibitions in the castle Museum may be closed, although the castle grounds will be open to visitors. Having visited Malbork you will drive on to Gdansk (ca. 1-hour drive) for your accommodation, arriving in Gdansk in the early evening.
DAY IV - Gdansk city tour Sopot (a walk along the pier)Gdynia overnight in Gdansk The tour will take you along the so-called Royal Route in Gdansk. Stretched between two 16th century gates, this is the way that the Polish kings used to take when visiting the city. Walking down this street you will pass the historic houses, each worth a praise. It is definitely a must to stop at the Town hall and the nearby Arthur's Court (a palace taking its name after the legendary Celtic King Arthur) to admire the famous 16th century Neptune's fountain in front of it. You will finally get to the quay side on the Motlawa river. This is the site of the port from centuries ago. It is lined with Gothic gates, once used for trading goods, and the 15th century crane, which was used for unloading ships. The crane is now a part of the Maritime Museum. The rest of its exhibits are on display in the historic Granaries just across the river (accessible by a small ferry). The Motlawa riverbank must be re-visited in the evening for a romantic walk along the river or a candle-lit dinner in one of the many quay side restaurants .Adjoining the Old Town area in Gdansk is the Gdansk Shipyard site with its main gate. It became world-famous in 1980 when Mr Walesa started the Solidarity union and movement and the shipyard workers strike under his leadership initiated the changes that resulted in the fall of communism. Continuing the city tour you will move to Oliwa (once a little village, now a district of Gdansk) to visit it magnificent, historic cathedral and listen to a marvellous live concert of the church pipes music. The tour of the tricity will also include a visit to Sopot and Gdynia. Sopot has traditionally been Poland's grandest and most famous seaside holiday resort. A walk on the wooden pier stretching for nearly half a mile into the sea (the longest in Poland) simply cannot be missed.Gdynia has an entirely different feel, being a modern city and port which were only developed in the 1920's after Poland regained its independence.
DAY V - Transfer to Lodz via Brodnica DolnaGniew - Teutonic castle Torun city tour overnight in Lodz Leaving Gdansk after breakfast you will first go to Brodnica Dolna in the Kaszuby Lakeland area just south-west of Gdansk (ca. 40-minute drive). From there you will continue to Torun (a bit over 2-hour drive), stopping more or less half-way through at Gniew to visit one of the best-preserved Teutonic castles. Torun - the city of Copernicus and world-famous gingerbread cakes. It was one of the first towns that had been founded by the Teutonic Knights on the Polish territory. Their castle, once in fact a separate town with its own mills, bakeries and fishing ponds, is now in ruins and only the castle tower (the former castle toilet - the so called dansker) remained to this day. Now Torun's Old Town belongs to the UNESCO Worldwide Heritage list - the best of all recommendations. The oldest existing part of the town is its market square with the surrounding streets, whose layout has remained intact for the last 700 years. In fact, Torun has Poland's second largest number of medieval remains (after Cracow). Other extraordinary sites are the 13/14th century Leaning Tower (one of three in entire Europe) and the Copernicus House - the astronomer's alleged birthplace (now a museum that recreates the medieval townsman's way of living).Nowadays, Torun also wins its international fame for its gingerbread baking - a 600 year-old tradition. The cakes may come in a variety of shapes and sizes, but always with the same unique and delicious taste .From Torun it will take about 2 hours to get to Lodz, where you will arrive in the evening for you accommodation. the estimated mileage on this day is 400-450 km.
DAY VI - transfer to Cracow Czestochowa monasteryOlsztyn & Ogrodzieniec - Jurrasic castlesTychy breweryovernight in Cracow Departing from Lodz after breakfast you will continue your tour to Czestochowa (a bit under 2-hour drive) to visit the Black Madonna Chapel and the monastery premises.Afterwards you will head further south and along the trail of the Jurrasic castles. The trail of the Eagle Nest Castles, as it is also known, is a chain of medieval castles, each located at the very top of once hardly accessible rock or mountain (hence the name), towering over its neighborhod; now most of them in ruins, they still present a picturesque view. We recommend to visit two locations on this trail. Olsztyn Castle - just a few kilometers outside Czestochowa - dates back to the 12th century. Although now in ruins, it was a royal castle in its prime years, a warrant of the royal rule over the territory.Ogrodzieniec - a legendary outlaw hideaway in the 13th c., became a possession of wealthy Cracovian townsmen from the 14th c. on. Probably the most famous and the largest of all Jurassic castles .After visiting the castles you will continue to Tychy to visit the local brewery and enjoy its excellent beer. In the evening you will arrive in Cracow (about an hour drive from Tychy) for accommodation. The estimated mileage on this day is 400 km.
Days VII and VIII - In and around Cracow Cracow city tour Wieliczka Salt Mine Wadowice & Kalwaria Zebrzydowskaovernight in Cracow You will stay in Cracow for the next two days, visiting the city and its vicinity. Below is a brief presentation of the sites to see during these two days. The Cracow city tour, similarly to Warsaw, is organized around main themes. The Royal Cracow Cracow is the city with over a 1000 years history, the seat of the Polish kings for more than five centuries, it still exudes an air of glamour and dignity as you walk along its medieval walls. It is best to visit the historic Old Town by following the traditional route which was always taken by legates to the king. Starting off from Florianska Str. and passing through the Florian Gate you will find yourself within the Old Town's walls. Florianska Street will get you to the medieval market square (Europe's largest medieval square) where each house has a different history to tell; the medieval trading house occupying the centre of the square now houses souvenir stalls as well as a collection of the 19th century Polish art. It is also a must to see St. Mary's Church with its magnificent decorations and Europe's largest, three-winged Gothic altar .Leaving the Market Square through Grodzka Str. you will be taken straight to the castle hill. Wawel, as it is called, witnessed nearly all of the royal coronations and burial in the Polish history. A visit to the royal chambers, the treasury or the castle chapel simply cannot be missed (visiting included). On your way back to the Old Town it is also worth having a look at the Jagiellonian University (one of Europe's oldest). The building of the first university college - Collegium Maius survived intact and presents the original early 15th c. style. The Jewish Cracow The district of Kazimierz in Cracow, once a separate town, is one of the best preserved traditional Jewish settlements in Europe. Established in 14th century, it was occupied by the Jewish community until WW II, then being the site of the Cracow Ghetto .The tour (ca. 2 hours) will start from Szeroka Street - a street whose layout bears clear traces of the original medieval market square, being the heart of the Jewish community for ages. Szeroka Street is the location of the following sites: the Old Synagogue (Alte Schul) - the oldest Jewish building in Poland dating back to 15th c., now housing the exhibition on the history and culture of the Cracow Jewish community, the Remuh Synagogue and cemetary (est. 1530's - 1550's), the Mikvah - the ritual bath house (1567), the Wolf Popper Synagogue (est. 1620). From Szeroka Street you will walk into Miodowa Str. to see the Temple Synagogue (1860) and then moving on to the Kupa Synagogue (1740's) and the Isaak Synagogue (1640's). Leaving the Isaak Synagogue, it is only a few steps to enter Plac Nowy (the Nowy Square) with a round pavilion occupying its centre - the 1920's and '30's ritual slaughterhouse for poultry. Walking out of the square you will walk into Jozefa Str. to see the High Synagogue (est. 1550's-60's).The tour in Kazimierz will then continue to the Schindler's factory - the site of events as portrayed in S. Spielberg's "The Schindler's List" movie .Wieliczka - a town of medieval origin just outside Cracow (ca. 25-minute drive), where you will visit the magnificent underground salt-mine chambers (a ca. 2-hour underground walking tour).Cracow's vicinity. Wadowice - the hometown of Pope John Paul II, where you can see his home, the nearby church with his baptism fountain and try the famous cream cakes (Pope's favorite in his childhood). Kalwaria Zebrzydowska - a fine piece of Baroque monastery and pilgrimage complex .the estimated mileage on these two days is 150 km.
DAY IX -transfer to Warsaw overnight in Warsaw The drive from Cracow to Warsaw takes between 4 and 5 hours. It is recommended to break the journey halfway, stopping at a little town of Checiny, where remains of the 13th century royal castle can be admired. The platform at the top of one of its towers presents a magnificent view over the entire neighbourhood.Arriving in Warsaw in the afternoon for accommodation.
DAY X - departure Transfer to the airport for departure, arriving at the airport at ca. 11 AM .Termination of service.
Estimated mileage for entire tour: 2,100 km
