Tour Itinerary
Introduction - This is a choice of two canoeing trips or a combination of both, located in north-eastern Poland. This event is usually available from April to September and, apart from the first and the last nights, camping along the route is required (tents provided).The Hancza river, one of the wildest Polish rivers, winds across wild meadows and primeval forests to flow into the Augustowski canal - the 19 th century engineering masterpiece. The canal, a ca. 50 km stretch between the Hancza river and the town of Augustow, has 7 locks to be passed on the way. One of the locks has two chambers to cover the 6.5 water level drop. The Ostroda - Elblag canal is another, 82 km long engineering masterpiece, where a system of 5 special shafts with trolleys was developed to transport ships or boats over the 13-24 metre drops in water levels. The canal will take you to Elblag in the north of Poland, but if you feel like going on for a bit longer, the trip may stop short of the Baltic seashore.
ARRIVAL DESTINATION (recommended) Gdansk - operated by all major airlines, ca. 3-hour drive from the canoeing location
Warsaw - operated by all major airlines, ca. 3-hour drive from the canoeing location
FIRST DAY
Transfer from the airport, accommodation in a local bed and breakfast.
DAYS II - onwards(minimum of 6 days recommended if both canoeing routs are to be explored) - canoeing on the Hancza River and Augustow Canal, a stretch of 10-15* miles to be covered daily- transfer to Ostróda-Elblag canal (a day break from canoeing for the transfer)- canoeing on the Ostroda-Elblag canal - 10-15* miles daily* daily distance will depend on participants canoeing skills, fitness, exact canoeing route to be covered, as selected by participants upon booking our special event:- winter canoeing trips to admire the beauty of snow-covered and frozen primeval forests; a stretch of ca. 6-7 miles will be covered daily, a stay of at least 5 days (including arrival and departure days) is recommended
LAST DAY
Transfer to the airport for departure
Optionally, depending on the arrival location, the itinerary can be extended to include a sightseeing stay in Warsaw or sightseeing stay in Gdansk
