How To Exchange Money In Poland

How to work with the Polish zloty and how to exchange your money to and from the Polish zloty is something that everyone who comes to Poland should fully understand. Exchanging money here can be expensive if you do not take your time to do some research.

If you are going to be in Poland for a short time, your money exchange requirements may be minimal. Dollars and Euro are freely taken in many establishments around the country.

You will find Bankomats in all the main cities and in many of the smaller towns in Poland. Sometimes, as is typical on the Baltic Coast, they are in place only during the summer tourist season. You can use your bank cards at the machines and draw Polish Zloty as you need them.

You will find Bankomats at the airports and in the train stations. Draw just what you need for the day. This is as much a safety precaution as anything. The less cash you have in your pocket, the less you will lose. This advice applies to traveling in all countries in Europe. Relieving tourists of cash is big business to many people in Europe.

Hotels will exchange money for you. But they are very expensive. Of all the places to change money, the hotels are generally the most expensive of all. If you have any choice at all, do not convert at a hotel.

You can convert at banks. The biggest problem you migh have here is the language barrier and an often beauocratic slowness that can drive you nuts.

It is best to convert your money at a Kantor. You will find Kantors in most of the cities in Poland. Local people use them to change money that they receive from foreign tourists and to convert money when they are going to travel outside Poland. You generally get the best rates at a Kantor.

If you are in Warsaw, there is a particularly good Kantor that is next to the popular 3 Cats Gallery. You can see a map to the 3 Cats when you go to their web site that is here. The Kantor is two doors down from the 3 Cats.

It may not be necessary to exchange money as much as you expect. Many businesses take US Dollars and Euro. Go to each of these links to get specific information about using US Dollars and Euro in Poland. The Euro In Poland Dollars in Poland

Do not exchange money with anyone on the street. You will likely be defrauded. You find people making offers at the airports, train stations, outside hotels and in front of Kantors. Just walk on by regardless of how attractive their offer sounds and how smart you think you are. These people are professionals and skin the best.

You can check the official daily exchange rate for the Polish zloty to any other currency by going to this link National Bank Of Poland Excahnge Rates. That is the official exchange rate. When you change at any other location, your rate will be less attractive.
