Polish Weather Conditions For February, 2006

Polish weather conditions continue to be easily described. It is terrible. It is cold. It is sloppy. And it shows no sign of short time relief.
Polish weather, even though it is now the middle of February, is typical of the usual early January conditions. It is gray, overcast, snow flurries, continually below zero degrees Celsius and depressing.
The days are getting longer so one at least has a bit more of light gray weather rather than long nights.
The weather forecasts indicate that there will be no break in the weather for the next couple weeks. So if you are coming to Poland, look for unpleasant weather. Prepare for deep winter cold.
The Polish weather has affected everything in the country. The trains, particularly the local trains have been running late. Many have been cancelled. And, typical of the Polish railroad system management, cancelled trains are often not announced until well after they have been cancelled. This, of course, leaves people standing on the platforms in below zero weather needlessly for long periods of wasted time.
The Polish weather has also affected the roads. The driving conditions are terrible. But the Polish weather conditions have not affected the Polish drivers. A good majority, or probably the vast majority, drive as if it were the middle of the summer, on a bright sunny, dry day. So it is not so much the weather that has made driving in Poland bad but more so the drivers who do not understand the concept of adjusting their driving to the existing conditions.
If you venture on the Polish roads you must be alert to the fact that many Polish drivers do not tolerate people who adjust their driving habits to the existing conditions. If a posted speed limit say 60 for normal conditions and you even drive the posted speed limit, you are likely to be subject to horns being beeped at you and drivers passing you and then cutting in on you to show their displeasure.
The buses have also been affected by the Polish weather. They are often late, but one must say that even though they are late, they run. When Polish weather is bad, these buses are often the transportation choice for local transportation.
