About Nigerian scam letters

When you respond to a Nigerian scam letter you put yourself in danger. Not only do you put yourself in financial danger you put yourself in physical danger.

The people behind Nigerian scam letters are hardened criminals who are not above threatening to kill you if you do not comply with their demands and who have reportedly lured some people to Nigeria where the people have been killed or held for ransom.

Do not try to outsmart the people who send Nigerian scam letters. They know what they're doing and they have seen all the tricks. Attempting to scam the Nigerian scanners is an exercise in futility and very dangerous for you.

You cannot expect any help or protection from the Nigerian government and you can not expect any protection or help from your own government. When you are dealing with Nigerian scam letter writers you are dealing on your own.

In the process of scamming you, the Nigerian scammer will generally ask for bank account details from you. He will ask this under the pretense of wanting to make a deposit to your bank account. But as soon as you give the banking details, the Nigerian scam letter writer uses the information to empty your bank account.

Any other personal information that you provided in the process is likely to be sold and possibly used for other fraudulent activities such as identity theft.

In an other variant of the Nigerian scam you may be ask to make a prepayment or sincerity fee payment for taxes due on the money that is to be transferred to you. So if you respond to a Nigerian scam lottery letter, you are likely to be told that you have to prepay the taxes prior to being the recipient of the proceeds of the lottery.

But as soon as you make the prepayment to the Nigerian scam letter writer and the payment clears, you will no longer hear from the Nigerian scammer.

Below this are the latest examples of Nigerian scam letters that have been received and forwarded to us for publication. And there is a large archive of letters linked at the bottom.

If you get any other Nigerian scam letter your action should be very simple and that is to forward that Nigerian scam letter to this e-mail address 419.fcd@usss.treas.gov .

Never respond to a Nigerian scam letter. If you do you may place yourself in physical danger and you will definitely place yourself in financial danger.
