Kaczinski Brothers Under The Thumb Of Lepper

The new government of Poland, a minority government, received its vote of confidence on November, 2005 with the help of a party that is one of the least popular parties in Poland - the Farmers Self Defense Party lead by Andre Lepper. That the Kaczinski Brothers government, a government purported of the right, had to solicit the votes of this far left party, does not make the future of this government too bright.
Surveys show that Polish voters voted for the Kaczinski Brothers party, PIS and the center right party, Civic Platform, fully expecting that there would be a coalition between the two. But that did not happen.
During coalition negotiations, the Civic Platform sensed that there were some information agreements between the Kaczinskis and Lepper. The Civic Platform took the position that they would not enter into a coalition with PIS as long as Lepper was involved. Lepper had to be out. Period.
But PIS did not reject Lepper and in the process, actually rejected the Civic Platform which Civic Platform is now in opposition and just waiting for force new elections.
Just after the vote, PIS offered that they did not have a high political bill to pay to get the vote.
But do they realize that in politics, just as on the internet, nothing comes free. There is always a back end cost. And in this case it is survival of their government.
Lepper was so kind to put it succinctly. He said that the government would survive as long as a coalition was formed with his party. And, of course, no bills get passed without his support. And, of course, to keep his support, some of his bills are going to have to be passed.
So who is in control? Kaczinski? Not at all.
Lepper has his ducks in a row. Lepper holds the strings of power. And he will wield them.
