Warsaw Poland Lights Up For Christmas

Despite the wind and cold, the people of Warsaw packed the Old Town and Castle Square as the City's famous Christmas display was lighted to open the Polish Christmas Season.

Traffic was snarled for hours as streets around the Old Town were blocked by pedestrians intent on getting a place in the Castle Square to watch the lighting of the Christmas Tree. This added to the already difficult driving situation caused by the typical closing of Krakowskie Przedmiescie, the main access road to the Old Town.

And the people, wind and crowds just being part of what is to be expected on this annual event, enjoyed the entertainment all around them.

The video below should give you the essence of the event.

The activity you see is indicative of Poland's continuing economic success. The shopping malls are filled, people are buying and the restaurants continue to serve without reported slowdowns.
