The riots were not normal for Poland on its Independence day. But the police were ready.

They, cooperating with German authorities, knew that German anarchists were coming into the country.

They also knew that large numbers of Polish protesters, the current estimate being 1,500, were coming to Warsaw from all over the country.

Though the Government knew that they intended to cause trouble, no action could be taken against anyone unless, and until, they broke the law.

The buses carrying the Germans was stopped and searched. But nothing was found that the Police could act on.

But they prepared. They knew the destinations of the groups and had Police units ready.

And they acted promptly as well as professionally. But not without cost.

Twelve police were hospitalized. And it cost the city some 72,000 zloty for the extra Police work.

210 ten people were arrested, of which 95 were foreigners. Most of the foreigners were from Germany.

Poland's police have had a test run of their organization in preparation for the Euro 2012 football championships.
