Poland's Auto Production Falls 11 Percent

Warsaw, Poland 12 August, 2011 - Auto production in Poland has fallen for the third year in a row. Every month for the last year and for the year ended 31 July , 2011 it was at down 11 percent .

Opel and Volkswagen both increased production by 18%, but their total production numbers are dwarfed by Fiat whose decrease dominated the country's results.
Fiat has started production of a new Panda model in Italy and stopped production of Panda in Poland. It replaced production in Poland of the old Panda with the Lancia, whose main market is Italy. With the Italian economy being less than dynamic, production requirements are low.
Auto companies in the Czech Republic, however, are booming. In fact, their growth is a major driving force for the Czech economy.
Export of cars from Czech has resulted in a first six month trade surplus of more than 4 billion Euro. That compares to Poland's trade deficit of 3.3 billion Euro.
