Poland - Controversy Erupts Over Burial Of Polish President Lech Kaczynski

Classified Polnews

Warsaw, Poland 14 April, 2010 - Controversy has erupted over the possibility that President Kaczynski and his wife may be interned in Krakow in Wawel.

Information has been published that it is being considered that Lech Kaczyenski and his wife being buried in Wawel, the place normally considered as the burial place of kings and heroes. According to published information, the final decision is being left up to the family.

However many people are already objecting. And the objections have the potential of tearing apart the solidarity of the people who now have put politics aside and are together in honoring their President.

Some applaud the idea of Wawel as a final resting place and claim that the Kaczynski's are heros.

But others say that Kaczynski and his wife are not heroes. They are patriots, no doubt. But they did nothing heroic. They were alongside many others in the Solidarity movement who did as much if not more.

Some polls shown on the Internet indicate that many as 70% of the people object to Kaczynski and his wife being buried at Wawel.

To many Warsaw is a better location for the burial of presidents.

Additionally, in discussions with people who do not wish to have their names made public, there is also concern voiced that Kaczynski may have been involved in the decision to instruct the pilot to land the plane in spite of recommendations against landing being giving by the air traffic controller at the airport. If he was so involved, in their opinion, the blood of so many people would be on his hands that there would be no reason to honor him at all.

People are waiting for the information from the flight recorders before they come to a final judgment on whether or Kaczynski was involved in the decision or not.

But regardless, it appears that of a majority of the people, though they respect him and pay him homage on his death, do not think that he should be interred with the Kings, Queens and heroes of Poland.
