Polish Worker's Self Help To Wages In Poland

Warsaw, Poland 4 February, 2010 - A 32-year-old woman and her partner may get 5 years jail for reimbursing the woman’s labor in canned food, cigarettes and alcohol from her workplace in Legionowo, outside Warsaw.

Agnieszka M, a sales person, took stock from her place of work to account for what she said was unpaid wages.

She was surprised when police caught up with her the next morning since she’d been so careful not to leave any signs of theft or forced entry at the scene.

She didn’t take into account that she was the only person in possession of keys, other than her boss, who reported the burglary when she opened up the day after the robbery.

Agnieszka M admitted to the crime and offered to return all the stolen goods to her boss.

She and her partner in crime, her spouse Dariusz S, both face 5 years imprisonment.

Agnieszka M said her weekly paycheck had been withheld, even though monthly pay is the norm in Poland, and since she couldn’t wait for her income any longer she balanced the debt in canned goods, cigarettes and alcohol.

She waited for her boss’s absence and just before she closed up at 5pm Monday, together with her spouse, she packed “anything of value” into a box and took the goods out of the store.

Both of them face court this week.
