Polish Delicacy With An Evil Twist – Dogs Murdered For Their Fat In Poland

Warsaw, Poland 1 February, 2010 - New tests show dog fat was definitely used in a “healing” bread spread seized in Poland last year.

Two women are on trial over a few dozen jars of “smalec”, a Polish spread used like butter made of animal fat, which they allegedly made and advertised as “healing dog lard”.

Polish Science Academy tests now prove that the lard seized by police last summer does in fact contain dog as well as fat from other animals.

“Scientists confirmed traces of dog fat in all the jars,” prosecutor Romuald Basinski said.

After getting a tip the For Animal foundation bought a 50PLN bottle of the “dog lard”, which supposedly treats lung disease and other ailments, and sent it off for testing. It came back with a list of ingredients: cattle, pig and cat.
They informed police who entered the rural property and seized a few dozen jars of the fatty substance.

They also saw tens of caged dogs, dog remains, and clothing, an axe and a centrifuge all in blood.

Dead dogs lay among the living ones, dog corpses rotted on piles of excrement and dog and horse skeletons were found dumped near the property.

A court case ensued and now new evidence will certainly boost the case against 37-year-old Agata G and her mother over extreme cruelty to and murder of animals, for which they face up to two years imprisonment.
Scientists were unable to put a production date on the lard, which will make the prosecutor’s job harder.

It is not certain whether the mother and daughter worked together. Both claim their innocence in their trial and say the jars of fat belonged to their husband and father who died three months before police intervention.
Neighbors said this has been going on for years and the deceased man used to buy animal corpses until the 1980s.

Agata G claimed to have killed dogs hanging them by a rope, choking them, even in front of other people, but this testimony cannot be used as evidence.

It’s possible selling products harmful to human health may be added to the women’s lists of charges.

Meanwhile, the women reported the For Animals foundation, who took all the dogs from the women’s property, for taking one dog, a thoroughbred, which they said belonged to an extended family member. They were unsuccessful at recovering the animal.
