The Old Town Square in Cracow, Poland, started communicating on Blip.pl, the Polish language equivalent of Twitter.

Warsaw, Poland 2 February, 2010 - The Old Town Square in Cracow, Poland, started communicating on Blip.pl, the Polish language equivalent of Twitter.

Cracow is the first Blipping place in Poland.

The famous city is going live online and Blippers can expect regular updates on what’s going on and who’s been in Cracow.

Based on Twitter, Blip.pl is the first and largest micro-blogging service in Poland. As with Twitter, users keep their friends up to date on what are were doing or thinking at any given moment. Polish institutions, such as museums, have used the service to invite Blippers to galleries.

Now it’s time for the first “talking city”.

This has already been done by the Tower Bridge in London, which gives up to the minute information on it’s opening and closing and whose been passing below.

But what does the Old Town Square in Cracow have to say?

“When it’s freezing it will tell us where the new bonfire is, so we can warm up,” spokesman from Cracow Town Hall Filip Szatanik said.

“Or that a demonstration just passed under the Cloth Hall.”

“It will also tell us that on a given day an arena is being set up for a performance, there are millions of possibilities,” Mr Szatanik said.

This isn’t the first new-age feat for the historic city of Cracow. The city is already prominent on Facebook and its mayor has already been Blipping away for some time.
