Polish Bear With Sleeping Distorder Is Done Terrorizing Southern Poland
Warsaw, Poland 1 February, 2010 - A Brown bear, thought to have been born in captivity, after terrorizing residents in Southern Poland rather than hibernating for the winter, has been captured again and will be moved to a zoo.
The bear was first spotted on January 8. She was sedated so that she could be relocated into the depths of the forest. This procedure took animal services and police a full day and 5 tranquilizer darts. At about 5pm the bear gave up the chase and collapsed into a deep sleep at about 1 in the morning. She was released a few days later, only to get into mischief again.
Doctors are currently running tests on the bear but she’s been qualified as dangerous and won’t be returned to the wild.
Veterinarians suspect the 120 kilogram 2-3 year old was born in captivity and her hibernation instincts never kicked in.
Other theories state that, as with any 2-3 year old, she’s just had enough sleep and is bored. She has a dangerous tendency of leaving the depths of the forest and lingering around residential areas and has been spotted numerous times since her release.
It was initially believed the Bear escaped from a private zoo in Sambora, Ukraine, but Polish and Ukrainian services have eliminated that possibility.
Environmental Care Services in the region are currently looking for a zoo or animal sanctuary who can adopt the bear after she is ready to be discharched from the animal clinic.
