Polish People Divided Over Donald Tusk's Decision To Not Run For President Of Poland

Warsaw, Poland 29 January 2010 - After two years as favorite for the presidential elections this autumn the PO leader shocked the nation with his decision not to run, saying he preferred the realistic power offered by government compared to the prestige of the Presidential Palace. Internet polls, forums and surveys faced a massive challenge to keep up with opinions coming in about Premier Donald Tusk’s decision on Thursday. And Poland is divided.

“The decision I made today required courage,” the Premier said.

“I want to take upon myself the responsibility for what is happening in Poland and not for what is happening with my career”.

Immediately citizens were all over forums sharing their opinions.

“The Premier’s declaration surprised me because I thought the presidency his Donald Tusk’s dream,” one internet post by Iwona Konst said.

“I admire him that he sacrificed his own dreams for the good of the party and the nation,” Iwona Konst. said.

Lilka wrote “Premier Tusk is a man of honor! He’s my Premier!”.

Another forum contributor pointed out that Lech Kaczynski’s entire election campaign was prepared to battle with Tusk which is now worth nothing, a clever strategic move.

“It’s a waste of time to have stupid fights with PiS. You’ve got to do your own thing and realize reforms,” Plusa said.

Other opinions shared online agree the decision was the right one, but for all the wrong reasons.

“He didn’t stand a chance! That’s all!,” Tyle said.

Among those disappointed by the decision, po-PO said Tusk’s decision was his contribution to the downfall of the party.

“No one else from PO will win with Kaczynski. So this talk about a candidate who will win is baloney.”

“And since Tusk was the only one who stood a chance this decision shows his cowardice. If he were to lose again it would be his political demise.”

Others still refuse to trust the politician.

“He’s promised all sorts of things!,” terefere said.

Donald Tusk is just “covering for Drzewiecki and will change his mind,” that is, that he is drawing attention away from his friend who stands before the court of inquiry, xxx said.

“Now let’s pray that he doesn’t change his mind and come back because one can expect anything from him, why PO is a leader in shiftiness,” kesio said.

“In a month or two he’ll say he got lots of letters from the nation and will declare his candidature and palaces won’t bother him anymore.”
