A New Polish Conservative Party – Just What Poland Needs

Warsaw, Poland 13 January 2010 - A new Polish conservative political party emerged on Poland’s political scene last Saturday. Poland Plus – “A plus for Poland,” as their manifesto reads.

Polska Plus (Poland Plus), formerly an 8 member congressman’s circle, announced it’s rebirth as a party at a congress which was launched with a skit.

Women dressed in cleaner’s uniforms shouted slurs at each other and waved brooms about competing arguing over who was the better. One woman’s reasoned „love and trust” while the other rested on the “fourth republic”. Both of these arguments allude to the last election campaigns of the leading parties. The whole thing ended with a dramatic announcement that the time has come for Poland Plus and the crowd burst with applause.

The party, though conservative, promises to be the answer to Poland’s unasked question. It plans to continue a tradition of reform started under the governance of Tadeusz Mazowiecki by changing everything from the farmers pension system to the constitution, as well as the ever popular oath to lower taxes.

The momentum of reformation to this point has worn out, creating the need for a “great collective venture,” party boss Ludwik Dorn said.

He said Poland Plus wants to legally restrict Government spending on political campaigns and to reform election law to decreasing the number of representatives in the Sejm and Senate.

The party also wants to amend the constitution to give more power to the president, and extend his term. They want to write a new source of law into the constitution – programming laws – which would serve to rebuild public confidence in the State. Dorn said a lack of faith was way Poles failed to realize “great collective ventures”, such as building national highways.
