Falling Ice Danger In Poland As Polish Weather Remains Cold

Warsaw, Poland 15 January 2010 Winter is showing Poland just how dangerous she can be. Accumulating ice is causing problems around the Polish cities.

On Wednesday, a Warsaw woman was seriously injured when an icicle fell from the roof of a building. Overnight a car was severely damaged in a similar situation.

In Poland, land and building owners are responsible for clearing walks and and keep building safe. With the long term cold spell and snow accumulation, many have not met their responsibilities.

Many sidewalks are still snow covered and dangerous. And large icicles on roofs are getting larger.

If you see any icicles overhead your best bet is to contact city guard or police who will fine building administrators 50 – 200 PLN for every infringement until they remove the hazard.

Should you find yourself in an icicle related accident, you should immediately call police and document the damages with photography. Building administration is responsible for the safety of their buildings, and for grievous bodily harm they can be jailed for up to three years
