Deaths In Poland - Poles Drink Heating System Antifreeze
Warsaw, Poland 19 January 2010 - In a small town in Poland three Polish people are dead after drinking three liters of glycol intended for use in their neighbor's heating system.
Of the death of a 62-year-old man police were informed on Sunday night. His 53-year-old-wife and a friend of the couple were immediately hospitalized in the toxicology ward. One of them explained they were drinking “kindling”.
Police investigation verified that the couple from a village near Zgiersk, north of Lodz, had been drinking alcohol brought to them by their 38-year-old neighbor. The friend was in the final stages of building his home and was trying to be friendly to his new neighbors. The threesome together consumed 3 liters of glycol intended for antifreeze his the new heating system.
“Police got to the 38-year-old just in time, his state was getting worse minute by minute,” Zgierz police spokesperson Magdalena Złotnicka said.
That same night ambulance crews were called in to another property. Two other men in the same village fell victim to the same industrial chemical. It turns out that the 41 and 42-year-olds had been drinking with the 38-year-old the night before. When doctors arrived, both were deceased.
Police are currently investigating further deaths or poisonings. They warn not to drink alcohol which came from an unknown source and definitely not to drink alcohol which is intended for purposes other than consumption.
