Polish Glass Companies Suffer Under Global Economic Crisis

Warsaw, Poland - June 15, 2009 Poland's high quality glass industry is experiencing bankruptcies among some of its most famous glass manufacturers as exports of high quality glass have withered during the global economic crisis.

Polish companies saw their exports grow as many companies in the West saw advantages to buying products shipped from Europe. Not only did they feel that they were getting better quality and service, they found that the shipping costs were lower and the delivery times faster.

Likewise consumer demand for the unique designs in contemporary glass and art glass lead Polish glass companies to go into aggressive expansion programs.

With the slow down, however, some companies, including Krosno, S.A. and Deco Glass, found themselves in such financial difficulties that they have petitioned for protection under Poland's bankruptcy laws.

Other big named companies are also reported to be considering doing the same.

Small companies, however, are doing well with some companies reporting that they have difficulty in keeping up with orders. Many of them work out of very basic facilities and have their employees on piecework. That holds down waste, labor costs and assures high quality.

Whether the companies in bankruptcy will be liquidated or just restructured is not yet known.
