Ebay Does Not Want Polish Shippers

Warsaw, Poland - 24 November, 2008   Ebay wants eBay.com to be for US customers and has made changes to discourage listing of Polish products shipped from Poland. The changes also apply to products from other countries and other foreign locations.

The effect of the changes is that eBay.com is mainly for US members now.

EBay forced the change by modifying the listing form that now requires one to choose a US shipping company. This effectively eliminates Polish shippers from having their products listed on eBay.com if shipped from Poland.

Previously one was not required to designate a shipping service,; domestic or international. But many sellers abused that and, according to eBay, did not post "honest listings".

The eBay change is intended to "make the site balance and accurate when it comes to prices."

EBay is trying to establish a site for each country to post. According to eBay, "the announcement" is found here: Maximum Shipping and Handling Costs

According to eBay, European shippers are advised to list on eBay.uk and then make the listing available worldwide.

By way of exampe, if you want to have a product drop shipped from Poland, when you list on .com the automatic shipping option you have is domestic, you can't choose International shipping only.

You have to put both add one service for US members and one service for international members.

So it means that you can't offer direct shipment to a customer via Polish express mail, or any other international service for that matter. You have to ship to the US first and then offer local shipping from the US. Or work around the system by listing in the UK and offering the product worldwide.

When asked, "Is there anything that tells the public about that?", an eBay representative wrote:

"As for the eBay.com mainly for US members there is non(sic) yet since there are still members who is using our site to register as for the shipping cap, there is an official statement, would you like to see that? *none "

All international shippers and sellers using eBay should make sure that they read and understand the Shipping Cap.
