Poland Has A White Easter Week After A Warm Winter
Warsaw, Poland - 24 March, 2008 In spite of predictions of global warming, snow continues to fall in Poland and is predicted to fall over the next few days.
Poland's weather this past winter stands out as an anomaly within an anomaly. Rather than experiencing the normal winter winds from the North, the winds came out of the West and carried warm, moist air from the Atlantic. The result was a warm winter while much of the rest of the world suffered under record cold temperatures.
Based on current data, global warming peaked about ten years ago. The climate change trend has been flat over most of that period. ( Climate facts to warm to) In the past year, however, global temperature dropped significantly. But Poland's winter was warmer than usual. The Atlantic Ocean influences air temperatures of winds reaching Europe from the West. Even though data seems to show that the oceans may be cooling, ( The Mystery of Global Warming's Missing Heat ) the warming effect of the Atlantic Ocean on winter winds remains essentially undiminished.
Polish weather forecasters know that as the wind blows, the temperature goes. Polish Weather Service Winds from the South are normally hot and dry. Winds from the West moderated and wet. And those from the North range from cold to "Arctic Cold"
Toward the end of Easter Week temperatures will warm slightly and the snow will change to rain.
