Necessary Economic Development Gives Poland The Right To Pollute

Warsaw, Poland - 21, January 2008 -  Destruction of the environment in Poland and its attendant pollution are acceptable to the European Union if economic development is considered necessary. The health of the Polish people is low priority as long as the economic and CO2 emissions objectives of the European Union are met.

The people of Poland will be collateral damage in the process of the country growing into the European Union.

The new European Union guidelines on CO2 emissions that are expected to be released on Wednesday will give Poland the right to increase the amount of pollution it dumps into the atmosphere.

By allowing Poland to pollute more and allowing the Polish people to live in a polluted atmosphere, the European Union hopes to reduce emissions of the gases that cause climate change by 20 percent by 2020, compared to 1990 levels - without stopping Poland's economic development. This approach is somewhat similar to the approach taken with pollution in China. Let them pollute so they can grow!

The result of the policy toward China is breath taking. Pollution in Bejing is so bad that it is possible that during the Summer Olympics in events where breathing is essential, such as the track and field events, compettion may be delayed. The Polish Government's prior appeal for relief from previous calls by the European Union for Poland to reduce its atmospheric pollution may be rendered moot by the new European rules. Poland will, as it currently stands, be able to increase the amount of pollutants it gives to its people.

Living in a polluted atmosphere will have a good end result, however. It will have been beneficial to the Polish people to live in a polluted atmosphere. They will have had the experience of tilting at windmills to help stop global warming.

Nothing has been said about limiting smoking in pubs.
