President Of Poland Less Support Than Bush - Polish Poll
Warsaw, Poland - 17 December, 2007 The contrast between Former Polish Prime Kaczynski's defeated Government and recently elected Prime Minister Tusk's is quite dramatic. And as the people of Poland see Tusk in an increasingly favorable light, their support for Jaroslaw Kaczynski, and his brother, Polish President Lech Kaczynski is dropping. The President's popularity is now lower than that of US President George W. Bush.
Now that Donald Tusk is Prime Minister, gone are the almost constant accusations of corruption, threats of new elections and aggressive foreign policy stances made by the Kaczynski Government. They have been replaced with smiles, expressions of hope and attempts at reconciliation and cooperation.
The emphasis has shifted away from punishing people to trying to find solutions to problems.
Kaczynsk's anti-corruption platform had had the support of the Polish people who had had enough of the Miller Government before him. But after he came to power, the people who had generally not voted in the 2005 elections tired of him and came out strongly to reject him in the 2007 elections.
One commentator opined that it is a matter of familiarity breeding contempt.
For the people to really understand Kaczynski, they had to experience him and then contrast him to someone like Donald Tusk. And now that they have seen how stark the contrast is, support for the Kaczynski's is going down.
Even after the election loss neither of the Kaczynski's have changed their combative ways.
The President's Chancellery has been holding steady stream of press conferences criticizing Tusk's Government and Tusk's decision. Rather than working behind the scenes to try to work out differences of opinion and new working relationships for the benefit of the country, the President has been taking his complaints public.
Jaroslaw Kaczynski is enforcing party discipline and ejecting some high level members. As many as 200 party activists in the countryside have left his party.
And it appears that the people are not happy with them.
The latest public opinion poll result show the President's popularity has dropped to 34% and the Former Prime Minister's has dropped to 28%. http://wiadomosci.gazeta.pl/Wiadomosci/1,80269,4762826.html Sondaz zaufania: Kaczynscy doluja, Tusk i Pawlak w góre
The contrast between Kaczynski and Bush is that while Bush's support has increased, Kaczynski's has decreased.
