Polish Election 2% Greater Turnout (1030 CET) But Results Delayed -Update

Classified Polnews

Warsaw, Poland 21 October, 2007   Update 22:10 - Due to heavy voter turnout in Poland, some voting stations ran out of ballots. One voting station in Warsaw did not run out of ballots until 1/2 hour before the polls were to close at 2000. It will now close just before 2300 CET. Results should be announced shortly thereafter.

Voter turnout is a record high.

Previous - The Polish Government has announced that the unofficial election poll results must be delayed 20 minutes due to the late opening of one of Poland's polling stations.

Difficulties in opening a safe in the city of Plock caused a polling station to open 20 minutes late. That station must remain open an additional 20 minutes.

According to Polish law, a media silence must remain in effect until the last polling station closes. So the silence will move the announcements of projected results from 2000 CET to 2020 CET.

As of 1030 CET, Gazeta Wyborcza is reporting about a 2% higher turnout than last year at this same time.

The turnouts reported are highest in Krakow and Warsaw at 16.16 and 10.22 percent, respectively.

The lowest are reported in Gdansk and Wroclaw at 6.39 and 7.74 percent, respectively.

Update - Due to heavy voter turnout
