Polish Government Fails To Show Motive As Poland's Watergate Scandal Continues

Recently detained, interrogated and released former Minister of Interior Janusz Kaczmarek has been accused of leaking information about a scheme to frame Andrzej Lepper. Evidence was made public to justify his being taken into custody for interrogation. But no indication of his motive for anything he is accused of is apparent.

It is alleged that Kaczmarek informed Lepper through a chain of people that possibly included Jaroslaw Marzec, the head of Poland's powerful Central Bureau of Investigation, sacked on 9 August for unannounced reasons, Ryszard Krauze, the fifth richest man in Poland, who controls Poland's largest software company, Prokom,Jaromir Netzel who was the CEO of Poland's largest insurance carrier PZU until he was sacked after being accused of involvement, and Former Chief of Police Konrad Korniatowski.

What would have prompted Kaczmarek to warn Lepper has not entered into the discussions about the case against Kaczmarek aside from the claim by President Lech Kaczynski that Kaczmarek's actions show that an uklad exists.

The case revolves around rezoning a piece of agricultural land to commercial. But the land to be rezoned did not exist It existed only on paper's created to frame Lepper. There would be no financial benefit to anyone if it was rezoned.

The only person it seems that would be hurt, were the frame job successful, would be Lepper and anyone complicit in the chain. And the Government arranged bribe would seem to only have benefited Lepper and people who were acting as the brokers.

Kaczmarek was outside that chain.

Kaczmarek was not involved in the setup. He only found out from Ziobro at the last minute.

Reportedly Kaczmarek learned about Lepper being set up in a complex frame job from the Minister of Justice Ziobro who was concerned that there would be a shootout between various security agencies when Lepper was to be taken into custody.

So it is not likely that he was complicit. There is no apparent promise of financial gain for Kaczmarek if the land was rezoned.

Details of the entrapment scheme do not show Krauze, Marzec, Netzel or Korniatowski involved in any way. And they also apparently would not have benefited financially.

So why did some very powerful men in Poland involve themselves in secret meetings and talk on telephones using coded language that showed they knew they were probably being watched by the Government.?

Why was Kaczmarek so concerned about his meeting with Krauze that he apparently lied about it in his testimony before the Parliament Secret Service Committee?

Was Kaczmarek working with Krauze on something else against Kaczynski interests? What were the four of them doing?

Did they have deep philosophical differences with Kaczynski such as those that lead to Dorn's resignation and Kaczmarek's appointment? The "Third Polish Twin" Will Leave Poland With Only Two Were they working for the benefit of the country in trying to stop abuses?

As the information continues to come out, through leaks and press conferences, Civic Platform leader Donald Tusk is now reminding people that at the time Kaczmarek, Korniatowski and Netzel were given their positions, he warned that they were questionable characters. Given his comments, it is fair to ask if they were they involved in something else that the Government now is conveniently using to cover their own transgressions in the frame job of Lepper?

The Kaczynski Government continues to block any investigation into the Lepper frame job, locally known as the Polish Watergate, so it might be fairly implied that they want to hide something. Would some information being hidden show a reason for Kaczmarek's actions?

As it stands, until the Government shows what would have motivated Kaczmarek, its own motives will remain in question.
