Illegal Polish Emigrants To America Hurt Poland
Warsaw, Poland 7 August, 2007 Poland's Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski publicly admitted that it was by reason of people overstaying their visas that the Polish people have not been granted visa free travel to the United States.
Kaczynski's comments made headlines in the Polish newspapers that shouted Poland was being punished because of the people overstating their visas.
Visa free travel to the United States has been a high-profile, emotional issue that has for some time has generated its fair share of political commentary and media attention.
But, for the most part, Polish press and politicians avoided discussing the base issue. Illegal immigration to the United States.
They have tended to ignore the public statements released from the United States Embassy in Warsaw, Poland that say that there is, and there continues to be, a problem with Polish people over saying vises granted to them under the current system.
The visa issue has rather been turned couched in terms of granting visa free travel as something that Poles should get as a matter of right to because they have supported U.S. efforts in Iraq.
And showing a lack of information about how the US Government works, the blame has been directed toward President Bush rather than the US Congress that sets the rules.
With illegal immigration in the United States getting the attention that it is in the US Congress, continual visa violations and illegal immigration to the United States made it politically difficult for members of Congress, in their latest legislative look at visas, to grant visa free travel to the Polish people.
Many commentators pass off the denial and say that Poles don't want emigrate to the United States anyway. The millions who still want to emigrate from Poland would rather got to Western Europe. Millions Of Polish Workers Want To Leave Poland
But statistics show even if that is the case, a large number of applicants wanting to go to the United States appear to be going for the purposes of illegal immigration. According to reports, about 26% of the visa applications made to the US Embassy are turned down generally because the Embassy staff cannot assure itself that the people will return to Poland on time.
The Polish take on the denial process is very critical of the U.S.Embassy. According to one newspaper article, the decision whether to grant a visa or refuse is made solely made by the Consul. The decision is not based on merit, but on the Consul's mood. One Polish employee of the US embassy advises people to come to the Embassy on Friday. On that day the Americans are in a better mood and grant visas more easily. And if you can't come on Friday, come when the weather is sunny. And be sure to dress well. And then another newspaper says that in spite of what all the press is saying about the new national security bill signed by Bush, this bill gives Poland a way to get into the no-visa program. The bill gives the power to Secretary of State and Secretary of Defence to set for each country a limit on the number of people that overstay their visas. They conclude that it may really make sense to press President Bush to allow Poles visa free travel. Poles simply have to get into America, overstay their visas and hope to be included in this number set by the Secretaries of State and Defense. Wizy do USA da sie zniesc
Whether President Bush will raise the limits to ignore visa violations after the severe drubbing he took on the immigration reform bill recently defeated in Congress is open to question.
Whether the Polish people will continue to emigrate, legally or illegally, to the United States is likely a settled question. Amd those who violate the laws will continue to hurt the remainder who just want to go to visit.
