Polish Women Replace Men In Poland's Construction Industry

As the exodus of Polish workers looking for better pay in Western Europe continues, the labor situation in Poland's construction industry worsens. So now women are being trained to take their places.
Currently there are about 300,000 men employed in the construction industry. It is estimated that 150,000 to 500,000 more are needed.
The Polish Government has been looking to the Near and Far East for laborers. The Labor minister, citing a severe shortage of workers, visited India to make arrangements to bring Indians to Poland.
Chinese contractors, along with their equipment, have been the subject of discussions for some time.
But the Government is going slowly on making it easy for these people to come into Poland because of the problems that they think might develop as new ethnic neighborhoods develop. Poland seeks to balance economic, security factors in immigration policy

Now, in the fashion of the days of communism, women are being trained to be construction workers.
The number of women taking the training is very small and will do nothing significant to affect the labor shortages that exist.
But for the women who do choose to take the training and the jobs, it is gainful employment.
