Poland's Andrzej Lepper To Be Charged In Sex And Land Affairs - Polish Prime Minister
Warsaw, Poland 31 July, 2007 In an interview on Polish Radio, Poland's Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski said that Samoobrona party leader Andrzej Lepper will have criminal charges lodged against him related to his party's "sex affair" and his involvement in a land rezoning scandal.
In a wide ranging interview, Kaczynski said that he does not want to talk to Lepper any more and that he does not want him in his government.
In a somewhat curious comment, he also said that Lepper, like any other person, could "self improve".
Kaczynski said that elections are likely in the spring but they could be held earlier.
Commenting on the conditions presented by current coalition members for settling the continuing squabble over the government, he said that they were unacceptable. He added, also, that they were a provocation.
Included in those conditions was the appointment of Samoobrona party member Sikora to be the replacement for Andrzej Lepper as Minister of Agriculture. Kaczynski will not accept the recommendation because his recommendation is political and not based on merit.
Kaczynski did not state when he had decided that making appointments based on merit had become the standard for his government.
There is growing opinion that the so called coalition crisis is starting to look more and more like a Kaczynski managed media event designed to eliminate Andrzej Lepper from the political scene and to consolidate control in the person of Jaroslaw Kaczynski. The charges against Lepper are a step in that process.
