As of today, two members of Samoobrona have left Samoobrona to join PIS.

PIS expects seven or eight to make the move this week.

Though Samoobrona leader Andrzej Lepper appears to be willing to take the chance and face elections early, his party members have shown that they do not even want to leave the coalition no less face elections.

Lepper has long feared that Kaczynski wanted to destroy his party and take his party members. It appears that that is what is happening now.

Kaczynski himself faces the chance of losing his job if elections do not go the way he hopes. But he knows the fear that he can instill in the minority parties and appears to be going to the edge to see how many people he can take before he has to make his final go or no go decision. A mass defection of Samoobrona members might prompt some of the members of the League of Polish Families to move or continue support of Kaczynski. It could be that Kaczynski is hoping to pick up a Parliament controlling number of votes without being burdened by party leaders Andrzej Lepper and Roman Giertych.

Kaczynski said today that he would make the decision on early elections by the end of this week.
