It has already loosened laws so that workers can come from Ukraine and other countries in the near East. Now it is expanding its efforts to attract people from the Far East.

The Government has been enjoying the benefits of money being sent home by its emigrants. Unemployment rate is down and consumer spending is up.

But on the downside, a large percentage of the work force has left the country. And millions more want to leave. See Millions Of Polish Workers Want To Leave Poland - Poll

People from all walks of life have been leaving. And they have been not been coming back.

For people to come back, or for that matter to stop people from leaving, wages have to go up more than the 9% that they have risen this year.

Without major structural financial reform, so far avoided by the Government, there is no money to increase pay to employees in state controlled firms.

And private firms, burdened by high taxes and restrictive labor laws, can't bring wages up and stay in business.

The Government sees the problem and a solution.

"There are severe discrepancies in our labour market," said Poland's labour minister, Anna Kalata, who recently travelled to New Delhi to sign a memorandum of understanding with India to entice workers to come to the former eastern bloc country to fill the gaping hole. "The need for labour is particularly acute in the construction sector in the run-up to Euro 2012, and we need you," she told Indians. "The fact that the Polish economy is growing at a rate of over 7% is making the problem even more acute." http://www.guardian.co.uk/international/story/0,,2110439,00.html With its workers over here, Poland turns east to get the country rebuilt

The Government has not indicated how the replacements will help Southeastern Poland which is now essentially devoid of young people.

Nor has the Government, in light of the housing shortage, indicated where the replacements will live.

The Government is looking for Chinese workers and Chinese Contractors that will bring equipment to build Polish roads. There is no information as to what the Indians will asked to do.
