Poland's Government Chase's Old Polish Spies And Has Encouraged A New Breed.
Warsaw, Poland May 7, 2007 While Poland moves toward on its moral revolution and tries to bring spies of the past to "justice", it has encouraged a new breed of informers.

Polish tax offices report a large increase in notifications from people telling about friends, family, associates and neighbors who are avoiding paying taxes.
There is also an increase in the number of letters written to military authorities telling about people who have been avoiding military service and how they have been doing it.
Police departments have also been encouraging people to report suspicious activity.
The informers are definitely having an impact on the agencies getting information sent to them. Tens of thousands of reports have been made.
As for the tax authorities, under the Polish law, every notification must be followed up with an investigation. The added workload placed on the tax offices has been significant. But while proof cannot be obtained in all cases, it is reported that a large number of the accusations have been proven true and have lead to some form of punishment.
Likewise the police have been busy as a result of informers efforts. For example, in the town of Gniezno, a criminal network was broken up because of information provided to the police by neighbors.
Some are questioning how one can distinguish the activities of these informers from those who had contact with members of Poland's secret services which at the time they were operative were part of the law enforcement mechanism for Poland.
One point made is that under communism, people now deemed as informers were often forced or blackmailed into service. And in some cases, they did not know they were informers but just happened to talk to informers who might have been friends or associates. I essance, many of them were "volunteered". They had little or no choice.
The new informers, however, are not being subjected to any outside pressure. They are simply volunteering information.
They are a supporting the Fourth Republic of Poland and that is patriotic whereas seems that it was not patriotic to support the Government of the People's Republic of Poland.
The new informers are simply a different breed of spies. They are patriotic volunteers.
