The reaction has been swift since the Polish Government learned that its current spies in embassies and other missions around the world would be outed if they followed the law.

The law requires that former spies be outed and discharged from the jobs. Polish Senate amends a vetting law to require dismissal of former spies from their current jobs But it was not envisioned that current spies would be outed.

The Government was very straightforward in its explanation as to why the law is in its current form.

Marek Kuchcinski, head of the Law and Justice (PiS) parliamentary caucus said that, ""We are not geniuses. Anybody can make mistakes."

Some commentators ask why the opposition did not find the flaw when the bill was being debated. They have as much responsibility for not reviewing the bill in detail and simply voting against it because they did not like expanded vetting. They surely knew that the law would pass over their objections so they had the responsibility to be sure that what was there had no flaws.

The amendment to the law will pass. Even the opposition party SLD has said that they will support the change.
