Poland's Euro 2012 May Give The Polish People Hope Again

Classified Polnews

Warsaw, Poland 20 April 2007  During the run up to Poland joining the European Union, Poland was a country of hope. Soon after entry, however, hope seemed to be in short supply. But the Polish people seem to have something to look forward to again. And pressure may be on the Polish Government to change and to start paying attention to the future.

Prior the joining the European Union there was an underlying feeling of hope and progress in the country. In spite of the corruption and problems that faced the country under the Miller Government, the country there was a sense of hope and a new future as Poland worked its way toward EU membership.

Soon after Poland joined the EU the Miller Government was replaced by the Kaczynski Government and attitudes changes.

Suddenly the country started looking backward to find people and institutions to destroy.

The news has been dominated by angry men accusing, destroying and punishing. Little if anything positive is seen.

But now the people are excited about EURO 2012.

Euro 2012 is more than an economic or sports matter. It is a matter of hope, pride and a sense finally being more than a second level member of the European Union.

The Kaczynski Government will be challenged to get the Country ready for Euro 2012. It will be under the close scrutiny of everyone.

Currently the Government has its priorities on destroying the past, fighting with its coalition partners, fighting with its own party members and fighting with Russia, Germany and the EU in general.

That has to be put aside and the Government must look to the future and support the Polish future.

The future means building, planning and thinking positively. And building a future takes attention to detail. Focus and cooperation are required.

The current Government has not shown any of that to the public.

And the public is tired of not seeing it.

A recent poll shows that 58% of the people want new elections. They want fresh air. They are tired of the bitter people trying to get even with history.

Just being awarded the Euro 2012 games is something to be proud of. And running them well will give the people something really to be proud of.

In the end, it will be the people who run make Euro 2012 successful. The bus drivers, the ticket sellers, the waitresses, the police, the hotel staffs. Not the Government.

But they cannot do it without serious Government support.

Hopefully Euro 2012 will force the Polish Government to take a deep breath of fresh air and start concentrating on the future of the Polish people.

The people deserve it.
