Poland's Government cannot discourage Polish drunks on roads

Classified Polnews

In spite of the Polish government increasing penalties for drunk driving, the Polish police took 1411 drunk drivers off Poland's roads over the Easter weekend. And the carnage in Poland has continued unabated as high numbers of drunks ignore road safety and the laws.

Poland's Minister of Justice, Zbigniew Ziobro, has been making a special effort to clean up the Polish roads. The laws have been changed and it is now a criminal offense to be driving on the road while under the influence of alcohol. He has put a lot of time and effort into this project. But it does not seem to be working.

Ziobro also has put in place course that work 24 hours a day to the people for are arrested under the influence of alcohol are immediately taken to the court for trial. See Polish Government To Establish 24 Hour Courts

In spite of all his work, this Easter weekend in Poland saw the typical road carnage with 47 people being killed and 483 people being injured. Most of the accidents were alcohol related.

But what is most disturbing to many people is the number of people who were arrested for driving drunk. That was a shocking 1411 people.

The Polish television stations had extensive coverage of the entire Easter period warning people about driving drunk on the roads and warning those who chose not to drink to be careful.

But in spite of this people chose to drive drunk. They just partied and got on the roads drunk.

Driving on the roads in Poland is simply dangerous and will remain so regardless of the laws and only until the Polish people decide that they want to act responsibly on the roads.

The Polish Government does not understand that the laws will change nothing. Taking cars will change nothing. The attitude of the people must be changed.

The current approach taken by the Minister of Justice is typical of the Polish Government in general. They punish or destroy with the assumption that that will change behaviour. That just does not work and the drunks on the roads this weekend is a simple demonstration of that.
