Poland's Prime Minister Apologizes For Knockdown Of Female Polish Reporter

Polish Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski initially ignored the plight of one of Poland's leading television reporters who was knocked down by his bodyguards. He later apologized.

Kaczynski's demonstration of concern for the woman, TVN reporter Katarzyna Kolenda-Zaleska, who was slammed on her back on the marble floor in the Polish Parliament building was to say, "Lady, You lost your shoes."

Prior to the votes on the constitutional amendments regarding abortion, reporters had been waiting in the Polish Parliament building for approximately one-half hours to question the Prime Minister.

When he entered the Parliament building his bodyguards were organized in a tight circle around him, facing out. They pushed their way through the throng of reporters. The Prime Minister ignored the reporters questions.

The pictures shown on Polish television TVN, taken from the floor above, allowing one to see clearly what was going on, show the body guards roughly pushing through the reporters. And they show the woman pushed to the floor and people walking over her.

The soundtrack records the Prime Minister remarking about the shoes and moving on to the Polish parliament proceedings. He showed no concern to see if she was injured.

She gave her report on the evening news that day. She showed the film of her being pushed down and moved on the rest of the story about the vote.
