Poland: Lawyer Under Criminal Investigation Appointed To Polish Constitutional Tribunal
Classified Polnews
Warsaw, Poland 12 March, 2007 A recently appointed member of Poland's Constitutional Tribunal has resigned. The media are questioning why someone who is under criminal investigation for activities as a bankruptcy lawyer was chosen for a position on the highest Polish court.
Lidia Baginska, it is alleged, while performing the duties of bankruptcy lawyer for the construction company Unikat Development, mislead the court and was relieved of her position. And she is currently under criminal investigation for matters related to that case.
She was nominated by the political party Samoobrona in December, 2006 for a position on the Constitutional Tribunal.
In mid February the Head of the Constitutional Tribunal talked to her and tried to have her not take the position. She refused.
The Polish Prime Minister and the Polish President, who are in process of creating a moral revolution in Poland, knew her background.
The President officially appointed her on 6 March, 2007.
Baginska gave no reason for the resignation. Rumor has it that there was supposed to be a meeting General Assembly of the Judges on Wednesday. It was to discuss disciplinary proceedings against Baginska.
Her appointment can be understood in the light of the Polish Government's desire to remain in power. She was put forward by Samoobrona's Andrzej Lepper who just so happens to be constantly demanding that he get his way or he will leave the Coalition and bring the Government down.
