Poland's Lech Walesa versus the Polish Twins turns South
Warsaw, Poland 18 February, 2007 When Polish President Lech Kaczynski released a long awaited report on Poland's Military Intelligence Services he created storms across Poland. Being blamed in the report for negligence, Lech Walesa, said "What a fool of a president we've got." And quickly he is being charged with insulting the President and the matter may end up in court.
The relationship between Walesa and the Kaczynski twins has not been good ever since his days as President of Poland when they served under him.
Showing little respect for them he has passed them off as little more than troublemakers. He said that they destroy things without regard for the long term effects of their actions.
The Kacznskis have neither shown Walesa any respect nor given him any credit for anything done well for Poland.
The Military Intelligence Services (WSI) report released last week furthered the belittling of Walesa by judging him negligent during his time in office and failure to root out any collaborators of the former communist regime. Walesa's response was classic Walesa. "What a fool of a president we've got."
And the Kaczynski party's response was classic Kaczynski party; don't criticise us. Quickly a member of the President's party said "I felt Lech Walesa's statement overstepped the bounds of permissible criticism of the head of state and was meant solely to malign the president." She wants Walesa prosectuted.
When asked whether he would apologise to Kaczynski, Walesa said, "I'm the one who was maligned. "They should apologise for burning me in effigy and including me in that report."
Walesa is not going to back down. He is poping mad.
Taking Walesa to court over his comments will only make hard feelings worse and make enemies greater enemies.
