Andrzej Lepper
Polish Minister's Sex List Grows
Warsaw, Poland 2 February, 2007 Another Polish woman has come forward and accused Poland's Deputy Prime Minister Andrzej Lepper of asking for sex in trade for helping her husband's career. Now there are four and people are asking, "Are there more?" See in Polish
Andrzej Lepper's sex life is under investigation now by the public prosecutor. He is due to have a DNA test to finally confirm whether he is the father of a former party worker's child.
The survival of Poland's current government depends on having Lepper's party, Samoobrona, in coalition with Jaroslaw Kaczynski's Law And Justice Party.
Kaczynski, who said that Poland must undergo a "moral revolution", has been reluctant to dismiss Lepper from his position lest Kaczynski lose control and have to face elections again.
The added accusation against Lepper is, for Lepper anyway, just another problem to be added to his already long list. See Poland's Lepper May End Up In Jail Soon
But for Kaczynski, it is making his commitment to a moral revolution seem hollow. And it is adding to a growing sense that moral standards are to be applied only to Kaczynski's enemies.
Kaczynski has said, however, that if allegations against Lepper are proven true that he will remove Lepper from the Government.
Lepper is, of course, entitled to the presumption of innocence. But when one is involved in a "moral revolution", one must be very concerned about the appearance of impropriety. Unfortunately, the public bases judgments not on facts but rather perceptions.
