Poland: The Polish Government In Process Of Self Destruction
Warsaw, Poland 13 February, 2007 Poland has been lurching from crisis to crisis as the Polish Government continues on its self imposed path of destroying the people who ran the country since 1989. Now it has turned on its own people and is in process of destroying itself.

It is one thing to change Ministers. It is another thing to remove them and then attack them.
Former Defense Minister Sikorski was recently replaced by Aleksander Szczyglo his former Deputy Minister of Defense. Sikorski commented that Szczyglo was a good man and the Ministry was in the hands of someone who had experience as a Deputy Minister.
Sikorski is a free thinker and very popular. So popular that one of the Polish newspapers ran a poll to see how he would fare in a presidential election. That can make it difficult for one in the current political environment. And it appears that it is for Sikorski.
Szczyglo suddenly publicly denounced Sikorski as to his handling of matters related to Poland's purchase of F 16's from the United States. That triggered a response from Sikorski and the self initiated resignation of the person who actually did the work on the F 16 project. That person wanted to get out before he was dismissed.
Then there is the matter of the most popular politician in Poland, Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz. First removed as Prime Minister, then put up as a non resident candidate for President of Warsaw to run in a city that is Civic Platform oriented, against a powerful resident of Warsaw and Civic Platform member, and then proposed for a job in PKO BP for which he was not qualified and then who saw the people who put him up working against his candidacy, he has been lead a merry round and made to look foolish.
And now the Deputy Prime Minister Ludwik Dorn, also known as the Third Twin, is under fire. He is under investigation and being criticised for, among other things, not cooperating with the Country Prosecutor in fighting the Uklad Warszawski
And Przemyslaw Gosiewski, Head Of The Prime Minister' Office, also has come under criticism and may leave the position. It appears that he has been getting too much media attention and has some of his own ideas.
While the Government seemingly works to denigrate the importance and/or popularity of each of these, it openly supports convicted criminal and troublemaker Andrzej Lepper who heads the Government Coalition party Samoobrona.
None of the four first mentioned can currently affect the longevity of the Kaczynski Government .
But Lepper can if he leaves the Coalition. So his transgressions are essentially ignored. And he is kept in power even though he is getting constant critical press that make the Government look bad.
The chaos in the Government administration with all the changes is one thing. But there is a lot afoot in Polish political circles that can cause these new "enemies" of the current administration to combine and sooner or later bring the Government down.
