Pirated Vista Previews In Poland A Week Before Gate's Does
Warsaw, Poland 1 February, 2007 Pirated copies of Microsoft Vista were on sale in Warsaw , Poland at the notorious Jarmark a week before Bill Gates made his presentation. One trader reported that it is selling better than the pirated films and movies.
Vista can be bought on two CD's for about 40 zloty which is 10 times less than the normal cost.
Copies were possibly made from originals that were delivered earlier to wholesalers or from copies stolen from retailers preparing to put it on shelves.
It is not surprising that Vista is available at the Jarmark. If there is anything illegal on the market, you can probably either find it there or find someone who will get it for you.
The police arrest traders each day at the Jarmark but that does not stop the trade. The profits at the market are so high that as soon as fines are paid, business starts again.
Buying CD's at the Jarmark can be dangerous. One woman is reported to have had her bank account cleaned out after using a virus infected CD that allowed someone to empty her bank account of some 60,000 zloty.
The Jarmark occupies the largest sports complex in Poland. It will be shut down in June and traders moved to two other locations. The complex will once again be dedicated to sports. See Poland eliminating popular trade hub
