Marcinkiewicz has been publicly crowing about his meetings with opposition party, Civic Platform, Jan Rokita. This has reportedly caused Kaczynski to rethink his decision to have Marcinkiewicz be given the position. Kaczynski does not want him forming a new political party that would be competition to his Law And Justice party. See Former Polish Prime Minister May Be Disloyal
Members of the Polish Government Ministry of Finance, headed by Zita Gilowska are on the Board of Bank BP PKO. They opposed Marcinkiewicz appointment from the time it was announced.
The Ministry said that he was not qualified for the position. Experts agreed with that assessment.
Beyond that, there might be, some personal payback involved. It was Marcinkiewicz who unceremoniously dumped her when she was accused of cooperating with the Polish Secret Services. She was later cleared by the court and returned to her post.
And after Marcinkiewicz lost his bid for the Warsaw Presidency, he wanted to have Kaczynski appoint him in her place as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance.
It is rumored that Kaczynski wants to keep Marcinkiewicz close but will offer him the position as head of Lotos instead of the Bank Presidency. Lotos is now headed by a member of the Political Party SLD.
There is no information about how Marcinkiewicz has taken the change.
