Poland's Law Enforcement Farce Continues.

Classified Polnews

Poland's former Prime Minister Joseph Oleksy described his trial before the lustration court as a political farce. Under the Kaczynski Government, the application of Polish laws continues in that tradition.

Now Polish Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski is pressing for the removal of the newly elected president of Warsaw, Hanna Gronkiewicz-Walcz, because she failed to file her husband's financial statement 10 hours late. She has to go because even if it was not a major infraction and did not show corruption, the thing that the law is supposed to prevent, he says the law is the law. At the same time he is applying different standards to a member of his law and Justice Party. who just happens to be the Governor of the Mazowsze Region ( See Mazovia/ Mazowsze and Poldlasie) . The Governor was arrested for riding a bicycle under the influence of alcohol. His alcohol level was 0.7 and under Polish law anything above 0.5 is criminal.

The Governor claims he had only one beer. But he was so obviously drunk that the police arrested him. And a blood alcohol level of .7 does not come about because of consumption of one beer.

He went to court and received a slap on hand - suspension. So much for the Justice Minister's fight against drunks and program to confiscate cars of drunks. See Drunks . Did the Police confiscate his bicycle?

Even though riding a bicycle drunk carries the same penalties as driving a car drunk and, parenthetically, is the cause of many deaths and accidents in Poland, the Prime Minister defends the Governor because he was only riding a bicycle and that is different than driving a car.

It is interesting to watch the Prime Minister's demeanor during press interviews. He makes light of the fact that the Governor was irresponsible enough to be riding a bike so obviously drunk that the police arrested him. The Prime Minister has no criticism for the man at all. After all, he is a political appointee who is appointed by the Minister of Interior and is a member of the Prime Minister's Law and Justice Party.

It is becoming more obvious that the law in Poland is the law as seen through the eyes of the Prime Minister.

When you come to Poland, remember that law and justice in Poland is strictly enfarced.
