Former Polish Prime Minister May Be Disloyal

After having been a loyal servant to Polish Prime Minister Lech Kaczynski and having lost the election for the Presidency of Warsaw, Poland, Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz was promised the job as CEO of Polish Bank BP PKO. But now he may not get it because he is showing signs of disloyalty.

Marcinkiewicz, Kaczynski's immediate predecessor, just happens to be the most popular politician in Poland. And he has been, of late, meeting with an arch political rival of Kaczynski, Jan Rokita of the Civic Platform.

The Prime Minister is no slouch. He sees that Marcinkiewicz and Rokita may be getting ready to form a new political party. He does not want to appoint someone who might form a political party that is competitive to his.

Should that occur, the new party might not be just competitive to his. It might affect the longevity of his Government

So Kaczynski is tightening the screws on Marcinkiewicz.

Marcinkiewicz said, after he lost the election as President of Warsaw, that he needed a job. Kaczynski promised him the CEO position at Bank BO PKO.

But now Kaczynski is rethinking the decision. Read in Polish

The consequences of not giving him the job may be worse than having him in the job even though he is disloyal. It may force him into making a desperate move to form a new political party now and bring down the current Government.

Even knowing that he might not get the job is likely to cause him to meet more with Rokita than before. And the more he meets, it would seem the more disloyal he would be.
