Poor management shuts down Warsaw Poland's roads
Classified Polnews
Warsaw, Poland September 18, 2006. Poor Polish Road management in Warsaw, Poland routinely causes a shutdown of a major commuter artery into the center of Warsaw and ties up traffic into the city of for hours on end. The road, Al. Jerozolimskie, is generally blocked by large trucks that crash into a poorly constructed, temporary (for three years) overhead barrier that is poorly placed at a low overhead tunnel entrance.
Three years ago a bridge complex was completed Al. Jerozolimskie and a temporary overhead barrier located in front of the low overhead tunnel in such a position that trucks routinely hit the barrier and cause hour long traffic jams while the trucks are extricated from the barrier and tunnel approach road.
In spite of the numerous times that the barrier has been hit, the Polish authorities just put up the temporary barrier again and wait for the next truck to hit it and shut down traffic.
This past Friday was just the most recent example of this incompetent management of the roads. A truck hit the barrier at the start of morning rush hour and commuter traffic, tucks and buses were tied up for hours. A trip that normally takes 15 minutes took people upwards of two hours.
And of course today, the temporary construction is in place waiting for the next victim and waiting to tie up Warsaw roads.
