A Polish Government kielbasa coalition

Classified Polnews

Warsaw, Poland September 26, 2006.

Kielbasa Wyborcza in Poland has a long history in local elections. Polish people are enticed to the voting booths with offers of kielbasa. As the current Polish government involves itself in a battle to reform and regroup, Kielbasa Wyborcza has taken on a new meaning and moved up the level of coalition forming.

Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski is pressing to get support for his government after the collapse when coalition partner Andrzej Lepper was ejected from his position as Deputy Prime Minister. And he has resorted to offering "kielbasa" in many new forms.

According to Jan Rokita, of the Civic Platform, members of the Civic Platform have been offered positions of deputy minister in a new government should they leave the Civic Platform and support Law and Justice.

PSL leader Waldemar Pawlak is said to be demanding senior positions in the government for his people in order to give support. And reports are that he is likely to get his share of the kielbasa.

The kielbasa offers for the people from Samoobrona is most interesting of all.

According to Andrzej Lepper, Leader of Samoobrona, some people have been told that their financial problems would be solved. Others have been told that their legal problems would be solved because the Law and Justice Party controls the Ministry of Justice. And, according to Lepper, by implication, their legal problems might get worse if they do not cooperate.

And because all getting offers are Polish politicians, they are likely to accept this kielbasa and support the Kielbasa Coalition.
