Poland's Warsaw presidential race a dead heat

Classified Polnews

Warsaw, Poland September 21, 2006 Poland's race for the President of the City of Warsaw had the former Polish Prime Minister Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz with a substantial lead over his main competitor Hanna Gronkiewicz-Walcz. But a poll released today shows that there has been a significant shift and that the race for the presidency of the largest city in Poland is essentially a dead heat.

Pentor poll results show Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz and Hana Gronkiewicz-Walcz would receive 37% and 36%t of the vote, respectively. The leading SLD candidate, Marek Borowski, would get 13 percent of the vote which is a drop from his previous estimate of 17%.

The Council of Warsaw would be dominated by the Civic Platform with 23% of the vote and the Law and Justice Party 22%. The leftist coalition would have 12 percent.

If the election results follow these poll results, there will be a change in the administration of the city of Warsaw, Poland which administration is now dominated by the Law and Justice Party.
