Poland's budget talks show little movement
Classified Polnews
Warsaw, Poland September 21, 2006. Budget talks held by the Polish government coalition parties continue with no visible results other than more posturing by the political parties making up Poland's governing coalition. Poland's ruling coalition party, Law and Justice, is trying to hold to a budget deficit maximum all of some 30 million zloty. And in spite of threats by its coalition partners to not approve the budget unless the deficit is increased, it appears that litlle movement has been made in achieving a final agreement that will result in the Polish budget being finally approved.
After a meeting last night of the leaders of the Polish Government coalition parties plus some Ministers, a government spokesman had little more to say than the meeting was not a confrontational meeting but that suggestions were offered and that suggestions will be considered.
Anaylsts are very concerned about any increase in spending. Poland is currently on an economic high. Analysts are saying that if the tax discipline is not maintained, when the economy slows down, as expected to happen in two or three years, the country will have financial problems.
There are supposed to be further meetings today concerning the budget.
