Polish government continues its campaign against alcoholism

The Polish Minister of Health has joined the battle that was initiated by the Polish Minister of Justice against drunk driving on the roads and the major alcoholism problem that exists in Poland. He has prepared a bill that is soon to be presented to the Polish parliament that is expected to be the first step in his ministry's efforts against alcoholism.

The Minister of Health, Zbigniew Religa, is proposing that every bottle of alcohol in Poland have attached to it a warning label similar to warning labels that are on cigarettes. He is also proposing that alcohol can neither be sold nor consumed in stadiums or on the beaches. Advertising of alcohol will be limited to the hours after 2300.
People who buy alcohol for, or people who sell alcohol to, minors will be subject to significant fines.

Neither the minister of health nor the Minister of Justice have taken steps to eliminate the sale of alcohol at gas stations. It has been suggested that such elimination may be forwarded to the Polish parliament in a future bill.
